Principles of Effective Teaching and Assessment

This is my first e-reflection toward PETA. The first thing I noticed about this one is I had not any idea about what will I learnt on this course, and how the lecturer will be teach me? How can I survive in the middle of crazy, silly friends? Well, do not take seriously about the last question of mine because it just appears from a part-somewhere in my brain.

A little bit opening (again), I just want to tell you guys that I got a new lecturer. Her name..ummm actually I do not remember about her complete name but her nick name is Miss. Inne. She was from Kupang, NTT, she is so kind and I will meet her every Tuesday in this whole semester.

I love Tuesday.

I love PETA.

And I love you Miss. Inne ! :D

Teacher.why, what and how.

Becoming a teacher is out of my plan for the future at that time.  But now, I am a part of SSE. I am one of SSE student and why I am here? Is it really my real purposes to become a teacher?

I am here because it’s my passion to become a great teacher, a different teacher.

Yes, this is one of my life purposes to be a teacher.

Why I wanna become a teacher? Who inspired me to be a teacher?

Because I want to make people cleverer than me, better than me, richer than me, and I do not want to look more Indonesian students who do not know what is alphabet and what is number. Miss. Inne had told us to tell who inspired you to be a teacher. I wrote on my paper, no one inspired me. Is it true? Then I turned back my memories and who was in my head is “RiyaniDjangkaru”. You guys, have you ever heard about her? Yap, she is one of reporter for the reality show “JejakPetualang”. Actually it does not have a correlation with a teacher but she really cares about the children who live in the forest. She taught them how to read and how to write. Physically, she is not a real teacher, but now I understand that everyone can be a teacher. Everyone who shares their knowledge to other is a teacher also. I really admire her. At that time maybe I did not think that I will be a teacher one day, but now I realized, those children needs a teacher and it’s me J

What kind of teacher that needed?

A good teacher is an effective teacher with the effective teaching. Miss. Inne has told me about this one. On the previous session, I and my friends have a gallery walk and the topic is what is effective teacher and effective teaching.  We are divided into group and we have to discuss about that. So, after discussed and have a gallery walk I got my own understanding about the effective teacher.  Effective teacher is a teacher who can handle the class, has a good time management, has a lesson plan, prepared the material before teaching, good role-mode for students, understand what students want, use various way to teach, doesn’t make sleepy and boring, doesn’t applied the physical punishment has a good system to assess their students fairly, the teacher able to deliver the lesson clearly and in appropriately ways and so on. While the effective teaching is when the class is conducive, there’s a class agreement, use PBL and SCL (student centered learning), discipline (both of teacher and student) and so on.

How I could be a teacher like that?

After I know the theory, now it’s my turning point to make it real. Trying to understand it deeply and applied it later in teaching assistant. And do not forget that I have to believe in myself, I could be a good teacher.
