Principles of Effective Teaching and Assessment : The Second Journal Reflection

By: Nur Hasanah
The second session of this class, I learnt about the parts of steps for teaching in the classroom. After watching video, the lecturer asked to analyze what that I got from it, whether the method is effective or not, then what would we do if we were the teacher. I just knew the little thing such as opening or starting point for teaching is also has to be attended. Even though, it’s about greeting, praying, role call and introducing the materials but we should not minimize it.
The parts of step for teaching are opening, activities, assessment and closing. Activities usually have been designed by teacher for providing the appropriate activity which is related to the materials. Assessment is the way how the teacher can assess students’ understanding. The last part is closing. Most of the teachers end the class by reviewing the materials, giving homework, praying and greeting.
In the second session, my friends and I analyzed about thematic method. Thematic is integrated learning by mixing some subject at a time. Its effectiveness is time efficiency. Instead, the inefficiency is not focus learning because the materials which is given only a brief. So, the material for thematic method is not studied in the details.
Then I learn about RPP or Lesson Planning. Lesson Planning is like strategies to face a war. We rarely teach without planning because we could not reflect what we have reached so far and what we miss. Through lesson planning we make some indicators, objectives, opening, activities, assessment, closing and time operation.
