What is an Effective Teacher? How Do I become one?

In 21^st century education, effective teacher becomes one of parameter to assume the education is good or not. Becomes an effective teacher is not easy. Nobody knows it takes how many time to become an effective teacher. Thus, what are methods to become an effective teacher?

At the second course of PETA, we have learned about a method to become an effective teacher. It was amazing session, I am enjoy it so much. At the beginning of course, Ms. Ine was showed us the documenter movie about learning process in elementary school. The movie provides us, how are ways the teacher open, giving activity and close the class?

After we watched the movie, Ms. Ine asked us to make group of four. Based on our group, we discus about the video. We indentify the effectiveness and ineffectiveness ways that teacher used in class. Later than, Ms. Ine told us, if we want be an effective teacher at least we have to prepare anything before we teaching. You have to, because, 80% to reach a successful learning and teaching process is through good preparation.

Good preparation is cover four kinds of Teacher Professional Knowledge (TPK). They are knowledge of content, general pedagogical knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge and knowledge of learners and learning. Based on four kind of TPK, during the preparation we have to know whatever material being taught, use the suitable way during the explanation, apply classroom management and have to know what our students’ needs are.

The last, an effective teacher is not focus on activities in the classroom only. However, teacher has to provide an effective assessment to for student. Bloom’s taxonomy is one of popular framework to cover an effective assessment. Bloom’s taxonomy has six stages. They are remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating and creating. To provide effective assessment we have to cover those stages begins with remembering until creating something.

So far, it was good course; my expectation for next session is Ms. Ine can provide more discuss activity in this class because for the next session, we will learn about an amazing topic it is lesson plan. I expect though the session I can learn and know anything.
