I was Learning While Teaching

I had a teaching practice in class X 1 on last Tuesday. My partner was Nurul Briliani. It was my first class activities during school experience. Actually, this class consists of 26 students, but there were three absent students. Mr. Rahman as the master teacher was sitting in the back of class to monitor the learning activities. The teaching practice was to review what students had learned before. It was because last week they had mid-exam and they should have remedial to get better score. The topic of mid-exam and review was recount text.

Before the teaching practice, we had already consulted about the lesson plan. Firstly we asked the copy of Mr. Rahman’s lesson plan and then we modify the activities. We also asked him about the character of students and their learning in classroom. Mr. Rahman gave us copy of last mid-exam questions as our guideline in teaching practice. In creating the learning activities, I felt worried at two things. They were time and students itself. In time, I worried that it would not be as I had expected and predicted before. In students, I worried if they could not be cooperative in the activities.

In the teaching practice class, we started this with playing a game as an ice breaking. We were a bit worried, because Mr. Rahman took a few minutes to announce the remedial for students. We thought that time would not be enough to do activities completely. The game was jumbled word of past verb. The game was in group. There was one representative of each group to come in front of class and write down the answer on the board. I think it was not really effective, because just the smart student who came in front and answered. The class also was so messy. After that, we had group discussion activity. Each group was asked to analyze a recount text. The analysis was about the general structure of recount text, the characteristics and the story itself. Then, a representative of each group shared the group discussion result. Brili and I just made it fast and brief, because limited time. In the lesson plan the skill of student was writing, in fact it was reading. After analyzing, we asked the group to make a recount in a chain story. It was also uncompleted and continued by individual writing of recount as the homework. Overall it was success but there were many things to be learned.
The teaching practice was in class XI 2 of Social on last Thursday. At first Brili and I were frustrated to have a good teaching practice, because the master teacher said that social students were so hard to be controlled. Overall, it was success. Brili and I are really happy for this. We had never predicted that it would be as great as that.
I just have one opportunity to observe. It was conventional or traditional teaching. The class talked about “pros and cons” and had “abortion text” as the example. The teacher didn’t explore about “pros and cons” but “the abortion itself”. Hemmmmmbbbbbb,,,,,,,,, I just thought that yes she could do this, but her explanation and exploration was too wide about the abortion itself. Finally, I did’nt get her point of “pros and cons” in classroom teaching.
For those above, I want to thank Brili as my partner in doing everything, Mr. Rahman (the master teacher) who is so patient to guide my friends and I. I also don’t forget to thank all friends in the big group of SMA Muhammadiyah 3.

hi my X-Mom :D

I think being cooperative is not something that you can control, right? So, do you have good tips to handle the students' whom categorized as "hyperactive students" ?

Thank you for comment,
yes it is a little bit hard to be cooperative.
a simple thing which you could do is "give her/him/them your more attention (by call her name),have any joke, get close to her/him/them.
it is not for handling, but invite her/him/them to participate.
i think those things will help us.

keep spirit & smile *v3a
