In the third session, my friends and I learnt about Models of instruction. Miss Inez asked the students to make group of 4. In my group, I had Ari, Reza and Kris. Then, she gave each member of the group a different article. She used Jigsaw in this session. Then I had a seat together with my friends who has same article that I own. We discussed and shared our understanding about “Lecture-Discussion Model”. The other groups discussed about direct-instruction model, guided discovery and group interaction model.
After discussing with my friends who has given same article with me, I went back to my group. Then, each of us shared information about models of instruction. Then I know about lecture discussion. As we know, Lecture is kind of delivering information verbally. So in this method, the teacher delivers the materials through spoken and the students have to absorb the information as fast as the teacher speak. Unfortunately, this way of teaching overloads the students’ memory as they have to understand and recall the information that they catch orally.
Then, direct instruction model is kind of instruction that is given by teacher directly. Usually, the teacher plays role as a model. Also, teacher plays bigger role as model in direct instruction model rather than in guided discovery. Guided discovery is kind of instruction that lead the students to find out the knowledge by their selves. And the last is group instruction model. This model emphasize on group work, group processing and collaborative skill. And the weakness of this model is distraction from the other students which talks about different thing that not related to the lesson and it will interfere the others who is seriously focus on the lesson. Then I know Miss Inez used Group interaction model in this session, right?
