This was our first meeting after mid test. Our mid test was quite unpredictable. We predicted than the test will consist of some essays. Unfortunately, we had to create a lesson plan. In this meeting, I learned about cooperative learning. This is one of varieties of teaching. There were some other teaching varieties in this meeting and we had to present it in front of the class.
After accepting the material, we decided to do a Jig Saw Reading to help us understand the material easily. In general, cooperative learning means learning activity that make students get involved into a small group. However in detail, it also explains that each member of the group has to have the same responsibility to master the material. Furthermore, this group also needs teamwork to make the successful learning by helping other members who have the difficulties. According to the material I got, there are some functions of this learning activity. They are:
A. Promote student learning and academic achievement.
B. Increase student retention.
C. Enhance student satisfaction with their learning experience.
D. Help students develop skills in oral communication.
E. Develop student’s social skills.
F. Promote student self-esteem.
G. Help to promote positive race relations.
Collaborative learning has 5 elements. They are Positive Interdependence, Face to Face Interaction, Individual and Group Accountability, Interpersonal and Small-Group Skills, and Group Processing. On the other hand, it also has many activities that use cooperative learning. For instance, Jig Saw reading. We have done it for many times. I just knew this activity after being SSE student and it truly helped me to understand the material easier and faster.
Finally, I may conclude that according to a word “collaborative”, it means the students have to make collaboration to other members and they have to work, share and learn together toward the material. Nowadays, teacher and student are going to need and use this collaborative learning as one of good invention in education world.

When I discussed my material with my friends in group,there was one of the member that seemed like did not enjoy the discussion. Actually, it happens for several times. From my personal observation, I concluded that the member is kind of intrapersonal person.
Do you think collaborative learning really effective for all students?

Actually the real name of this learning is "Cooperative" learning. However I made a title of it as collaborative learning. That's all :D
