Assessment Vs Evaluation


I joined in PETA class last week and I played some games of drawing. I also discuss some topics that are related to assessment. Most of us have known about assessment because we got that lesson of it from semester 1. Assessment is the whole way to collect the information from students. When I was at the first semester, I thought that assessment is kind of test that will be given to students but when I reviewed again in this semester, I realized that assessment is not as easy as like what I was thought.  
Like what I have said before that assessment is the whole way to collect the information from students and that definition was I got from Language Teaching Methodologies and PETA class. Assessment is divided into two parts, Traditional assessment and alternative assessment. Traditional assessment is like paper a pencil test. Why I call paper and pencil test is a traditional assessment? Because traditional assessment just conducts the test which could apply two lower stages of taxonomy bloom “remembering and understanding”. Besides traditional assessment, there are also alternative assessments. It is very important to be applied in the classroom because alternative assessment could conduct the activity which could apply the whole stages of taxonomy bloom,” remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating and creating”.
While discussing about assessment, there is a question about what is the differences between assessment and evaluation. Those are quite similar but also different. Based on the discussion, assessment is the wider part than evaluation because assessment needs more time than evaluation. Sometimes evaluation is done in the end of the semester but assessment is doing in the whole time of learning process. Evaluation is also important because it is the right place to reflect our learning process during the semester.
As teacher candidate, we should know about assessment and evaluation because it is very important. May this post be useful for your carrier as an educator in the future?

Za, can you guess why our PETA lecture asked us to draw something at the beginning of the course? is it only for ice breaking or is there any purpose of that?
