Principle of Effective Teaching and Assessment. part 2


The second meeting, I learnt about the effectiveness in teaching. In the beginning of the course, my lecture played a movie about one of method of teaching. The movie was about thematic learning and the lecture ask the scholar to identify the effectiveness thematic learning in the class. It would discuss in group.
            From the movie, we found some new information about thematic learning. Thematic learning is one of methods of teaching that combine some subject of study become one. In the movie, there is a combination of 3 subject, mathematics, social and science. Other thing there is an experience in this method.           
Based on our discussion, thematic learning is not effective because the teacher talking time and student talking time are not balance. The teacher talked to much than the student so there was no change for student to talk or share about their perspective. Other reason is the teacher just gave one example to the students. If I became the teacher, I will make balance between teacher talking time and student talking time by giving more change to the student. I also will give more examples to support students understanding.
In the end of the class  the lecture introduced how to make lesson plan and gave the student assignment to make a lesson plan of language learning. Would you like to know more about how to make lesson plan? Wait for PETA Part 3. See you.

Nice to see this time you write more than the previous posting...n.n
My question is what do you think about "lecturing" teaching mode? Is that ineffective because the STT AND TTT is not balance?

yes, I agree that video is not a good example. Because I think, thematic approach is an effective method. You can integrated with other lesson and let students experience the real situation..
