Appropriate Instructions = Effective Teaching and Learning

This is a third session of PETA subject. In this session, we review about last lesson which is Lesson Plan. I was confused between indicator and object. And here Ms. Ine re-explains and makes us understand about differences of those things.
This session, I learned about the model of instructions. These are kind of teaching methods that support effective learning process. Then question come to my mind, I think about Language Teaching Methodologies. Is it possible to combine those different methods? Language Teaching Methods and Model of Instructions?
Model of instruction consist of Direct Interaction, Guided Discovery, Lecturer Discussion and Group Instruction. How we learned all of those methods is doing jig saw reading. I like this reading method because it enhances our collaborative skill, we have to take responsibility to read our part carefully, and share it to others.

I will share about those methods briefly and consider which one the method that I will use most. The first one is Direct Interaction. In this method, teacher dominant the whole activity in class by giving guides and commands. Second one is Guided Discovery. In this method, teacher creates active learning atmosphere. Teacher also become a facilitator who doesn’t the class activities, here students become the main target of this. The third is Lecturer Discussion. This is kind of compounding between Lecturer and Discussion. Here both of them are balance. It means that not only the teacher but also students are working together to meet effective learning objectives. The last one is Group Instruction. This method is a bit similar with guided discovery. But this method gives some strategies to control student discussion and also tells about types of student group discussions.
I conclude that each method can’t stand or work alone. We have to combine it to meet our goals and make it as effective teaching and learning. After studying all of those methods, I think I prefer use Guided Discovery and Group Instruction while teaching someday :).
