Model of Instruction

On the week 3 of Principle of Effective Teaching and Assessment (PETA) subject, I learned about model of instruction which is about how teach with appropriate way. There are four models of instructions that use to teach at present time, there are: guide discovery, group interactional model, direct-instruction model, and lecture discussion.
Guide discovery is model of instruction which teacher as an instructor. Teacher should identify learning objectives, arrange information so that patterns can be found, and guide students to the objectives (R.C. Clark & Mayer, 2003; Moreno, 2004). On this model, teacher teaches the student by giving guidance and accompanies the student when they are learning. Teacher also build scaffolding of the lesson in order the student can develop their idea and thinking based on the pattern that given by the teacher.
Next model is group interactional model. The goal of this model such as, to make students independent in learning because they can interact and share with their group discussion. This model not only just interaction between students and their group discussion but also between students and teacher as facilitator. The advantages of this model, students can help each other of the subject in discussion and minimalize unbalance knowledge and score in the group because they share their knowledge in order each students has the same knowledge.
Direct-instruction model is the other model which is teacher directly teaches students in order to equate the concept or skill between them. The objective of these model has the same with guide discovery that to develop their knowledge by independent practice. In this model students practice the concept or skill under the teacher’s guidance and then they have to develop it by themselves based on teacher’s guidance.
The last model is lecture discussion. This model is very appropriate to apply for new teacher because in this model, teacher can check students understanding level which is need by new teacher. This model also allow teacher to connect the primary knowledge has been obtained with new knowledge. Now, it is depend on the situation of the class, characteristic of the students, etc. to choose which model that appropriate to use.

I think whatever the method that is used, teachers still should connect students' primary knowledge has been obtained with the new knowledge.
