Reflective Paper PETA1

October 17, 2011 was the first day we came to SMA 54 for the school experience program. During the program, we have opportunities to observe and do the group practice teaching in class or in other words we will be the assistance teachers. On the first day we attended the ceremony and were introduced to our master teachers. I have Ibu Alpiah as my master teacher. She is the English teacher in the class xi ips1, 2 and x C, and G. However, we will just teach xi ips1 and 2.

The next day we observed and were introduced to the students. On that day we observe the master teacher in her class. There, I have found that this teacher used lecture-discussion for the model of interaction. She got onto the class and recalled the last material and then continued by explaining about the day’s material on analytical exposition. She gave the examples of that and then watched a movie, and the last activity of review. I think the way she taught was good but I did not know that many students were sleeping when she explain, as they may feel bored.

In October 20, 2011 we had a big surprise because my master teacher gave us a scedule to teach three classes in the series time. For the first time we taught X.G. X.G was a very active student. At that time we learn about the procedure. Actually we did not have to prepare for teaching them, but I did not known what procedure is and finally we gave them little explain and then they have a gallery walk. I think they were enjoying the class but I did not know if they could understand the lesson because the time for reviewing the material is up.

Then in the next class xi ips1 I did the same thing with the class before the gallery walk. Actually there were two activities prepared in the class they were gallery walk and roll play but because of the limited times so we just took the gallery walk. Again and again the class felt enjoyable but I did not know if they did have the understanding of the lesson. That was what I afraid of. The last class was Ips2. We did the same activity in this class that were gallery walk, students making groups to discuss about the articles which I had give to them and then they will presented it with their friends by gallery walk. This class was different with other class which I teach today. This class was very noisy I felt difficult to handle them but with that gallery walk they can little control.

Initially when I did the observation in ips1 and 2. I think that ips2 is good and that it would be really enjoyable to teach them but after teaching them I felt stressed because of their actions. It was true what my master teacher’ said that “ips2 is noisy with many actions but they are clever. It is so different with ips1, a calm and smart class.” Yeah for me that is my challenge to teach them and I must know thier needs. Actually this is my first experience to teach in class, and I felt happy and tired. I ever think that teaching is very easy just comeing, explaining and giving homework. Yet,  in fact teaching  difficult but not really difficult. :)
