The 6th Journal of PETA: Differentiation

            As a teacher we have some duties to do in the class. The two of them are instruction and explanation. In the last meeting my friend and I discussed about differentiation instruction in the classroom. In this time I try to share the importance of differentiate instruction and how to conduct it.
We may know that teacher cannot choose their students. It means we have to accept our students just the way they are with many characteristics that maybe come from their culture, environment/family and etc. So as a new generation of teacher we cannot conduct our students with the same instruction all the time, we have to use variety models of instruction. In the differentiation process we will do two important things. The first is we have to analyse the degree of challenge that happen in the current instruction, the second is modify or design the instruction based on the analysis we did before.
            There are many variables which is affect our student’s personality in the classroom, it can called as our challenge to use variety of instruction. One of the things that may have big impact is learning style. So what we can do as a teacher is try to provide them with many activities and opportunities that can support them in learning process consider their multiple intelligence, we can be a facilitator but we should not be a judge. The last things I can say as a new generation of teacher candidate is no matter how great your presentation the most important is how well you know your student’s characteristic. J

according to me, the way we know the students characteristic is doing observation, but is it too complicated ? dont you ?

well, what kind of explanation which is effective to encourage students understanding?

our students will keep changing, their condition today is probably different with their condition tomorow. even though we have learned about adolescence in EP course, it is not enough because the indonesia environment perhaps is different with other country (which is explained in EP books). doing observation during learning is too difficult to be done, i think, because we have to focus on learning. so is there any way to know our students well?

yeah ika,absolutely sometimes we cannot covered all of their characteristics but at least we can provide some activities that give them some opportunities.
