All is Clear Now

Last meeting of PETA course, we had sharing session about teaching assistance. We did it in groups. Most of my friend in group said that first experience of teaching assistance was not so good. Some of teachers did not cooperate well. It seemed like they objected to receive SSE students’ presence at the school. I thanked that I went to a good school where the teachers were nice although I do not know how about the score.

After having sharing session, we did group discussion about teaching instruction. Actually we had already discussed about it, but there were many students who asked for re-explanation about it. We did gallery-walk. Each group came to another group spot to find out more about particular teaching instruction which had discussed.

Lecturer-Discussion Model

My group was discussing about Lecturer-Discussion instruction. This instruction is about giving materials trough questioning to conduct discussion among teacher and students and students with students. This instruction places teacher as the facilitator and organization of knowledge.

Direct Instruction Model

This model emphasize on teachers’ role as center of information. It seems like this model uses teacher centered learning approach. In this model teachers explain knowledge directly to students. This model also allows teachers to give students opportunity to practice and give them feedback. Discussion may occur between teacher and student but not among students.

Guided-Discovery Model

This model uses students centered learning approach. In this model teacher usually only tells students about the example or outline of the information. Then they should find more about it by themselves. It really supports students in enhancing their critical thinking.

Group-Interaction Model

This model focuses on group activities. Students are asked to work in group in solving problem. This model really supports students to enhance their collaborative skills.

After knowing about those models, I should be able to use appropriate model when I teach. All is clear now.
