REFLECTION PETA


In the previous meeting,  class reviewed about models of instRuction. The first method is  direct method.  This method is similar with teacher centered learning or ceramah in Indonesia, because in this method teacher just give lecturing to the students. Direct method is not like the other models of interaction,  because this method is one-way communication. Teacher doesn’t involve students to teaching and learning activities. The strenghtness of this method is students can get wider knowledge from the teacher, but the teacher also must be an expert of the materials and also have wide knowledge.  The weaknesses are students to be passive in class, studens are overload because there are a lot of knowledge that they have to get , and teacher cannot check students’ understanding  because teacher the teacher focused on the  materials that the teacher have to give to the sudents.
Lectured centered-learning  is similar with two-way communication. This model is like mixing between direct method and guided discovery, because there is lecturing like direct method and then discussion  with students, teacher gives question to the students. The strengthens of this model are teacher can check students’ understanding based on the discussion, students can construct their own knowledge, and teacher can promote social interaction. This method is effective only when they have prior knowledge.
The next is guided discovery. This model is similar like student centered learning. At the beginning, the teacher just provides examples and then asks the students. The teacher will let the students to think and construct their own knowledge. This model is different from other model because the teacher only guides the students, something like discussion, but without lecturing in the beginning. The strengthens are students are thinking critically and increase students’ interest of the lesson. This model will be effective if the students have intrinsic motivation and critic.
The last model is group interaction.  This model focused on group activities. The strenghtens are enhancing collaborative skills of students, face to face interaction, and individual accountability. This method can be effective if the members of the group take part with the task.
Those 4 models can be effective in class if the teacher pay attention to the characteristics of each model, the students, and the material. Teacher also can mix those 4 models if needed.

is lecture centered-learning same with lecture discussion? why did you use "lecture centered-learning" term and not use "lecture discussion" term?
