Assessment in My Opinion

PETA class on November 29th 2011 was fun. Miss. Ine started the class with asked to draw about our feeling in that day. I drew flower, cloud, and butterfly. The picture told that I was happy at that time. Then, we shared with our partner. Many kind feeling that I found from my friends.  After that, Miss. Ine asked again to draw about our feeling if we heard the word test. I always feel bad if I heard it, because in my mind test is something which is makes me scared, confused, and dizzy, especially if the test about something that I have not masters it. I have experience when I was senior high school, I was stress because test. There was much acne that appeared in my face. My mother became worried about me, but fortunately I could save my feeling and the situation.
After we did drawing activity, Miss. Ine asked about what kind of assessment that we want. According to me, I want assessment that teacher give to me are varieties. Not only paper pencil assessment, but performance assessment is important too. I need assessment that can measure my cognitive, affective, and psychometric. So, my ability can improve. I like the varieties assessment like in Sampoerna School of Education (SSE) now. I think it is fun, such as drama, exhibition, etc. Then, she gave us some question on the paper and we must write our answer. We did it in the group of three. Before it, we have known about assessment and evaluation in Language Teaching Methodology (LTM). As me know assessment and evaluation is the way to collect information about the ability of the students. Two are distinguish by the wide ranging.
There were some questions that make me interested. The first is about assessment from K-12. Based on my experience assessment that I got were boring. It is because always used paper and pencil test. I think that kind of assessment just can make students have short term memory, because in my experience I just memorize it at that time after that I forgot it, except my favorite lesson. It was same with my friend’s experience. Then, I think it is make students to do cheating. It is happen usually because they didn’t master in the material, the questions usually didn’t consider about the students’ level, etc.
If I compare between assessment from K-12 and assessment in SSE, I more like it in SSE . It is because there are varieties of assessment and based on my experienced it could help me to improve my ability. Such as micro teaching, exhibition, made lesson plan, made mini research, etc. So, I can apply knowledge that I have from the study in class to the reality. In my opinion assessment can we call effective if it achieved the goal. So, what kind of assessment that we want use to assess the students it depend on the goal. As a teacher candidate, if I want to conduct assessment I must consider about the students’ level. It is for make appropriate assessment. I hope in the future I can change the students’ perspective about test, from bad thing become fun thing (something that makes their have fun and enjoy).
