This session was fun at all! Miss Ine finally asked us to play game :D Not really a big game, just drawing about our feeling at that day, but it was so fun! We were all laughing and happy. Miss Ine asked us to draw about our feeling when we heard the word test. All of us except Ikin were drawing about something bad. Indeed, for most of us, test has become a monster. It means that we have to struggle to study all the materials and the feeling when we suddenly forget it all when we do the test. However, in Sampoerna School of Education has conducted different kind of test that not really freaking us out.
I also knew that assessment and test are different. Assessment is the way teacher collect information of students’ performance during the learning and teaching process. While test is the way teacher measure students’ understanding about certain topics. So, we can conclude that test is a part of assessments.
At this session, we learnt about effective assessment. As you may know, SSE already conducted a various assessments, such as: Drama Performance in Final Exam of LC, Poster session in Mid-test LAD, and exhibition in EP. It’s not like when I was in my previous study, there only two kinds of assessment; paper and pencil test and practicing dialogue. There are many advantages in using various kinds of assessments. One of them is to cover students’ cognitive which might be different each other. Besides, it also can enhance students’ creativity and critical thinking, because they are involved in different assessments. It does also can reduce cheating. For me I used to cheat when I did paper and pencil tests. But when I made essay or mini research, micro-teaching, drama, exhibition, and let’s say all those assessments in SSE, I never cheating. The reason is those kind of assessments make us not to be a score oriented.
It’s like we really enjoy the learning process and get the meaningful learning, so when there’s come a test, I am not really worried. It’s because, I can understand the material well and I don’t have to do memorizing of all the materials. For example, in making essay, I can write anything that I want relate to the topic. I can search some references and resources which also can enrich my knowledge. While in test, I have to do it in one time and it makes me nervous. So, in my opinion, one of characteristics of effective assessments is to make our students enjoy the assessment itself.

is it as that easy to define effective assessment? I mean the students should feel enjoy the test, or can you give me another ideas?
