PETA: Learn from a real case

By: Rida Sahridah
PETA : second journal

Last Tuesday was my second time in attending PETA (Principles of Effective Teaching and Assessment) class. Then, one kind of learning style is audio visual style. My lecturer did it to us by watching a video. To be honest, the video touched me successfully.
The video showed classroom activity. There were a female teacher and students. Totally, the video told me how was the teacher apply thematic lesson toward students? In the group of four, we discussed about the video. We tried to identify contents during the class based on the video. The contents are opening, activities, assessment and closing. The best part of this activity is the lecturer asked us to give and put our different ideas if we disagree about the video. It was so amazing. We learned from a real case.
Ms. Ine, my lecturer of PETA showed us about a great book, Understanding by design written by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe. She highlighted one part. The part is twin sins in curriculum design. The twin sins are activity-focused and coverage approach. Activity-focused means hands on without minds on or full activity in the classroom without a clear object. Then, coverage approach means teach, test and hope for the best. Those things lead me to make an ideal and arrangement lesson plan. It is great.
I my opinion, teacher needs lesson plan to make an arrangement classroom atmosphere. Lesson plan guides teacher to keep on prime objectives. This course opens my mind about my future become a teacher. I cannot wait anymore for the next meeting.
