In this session, Ms. Ine asked my friends and I presenting about Instructional Models. She divided the class into 4 groups. Each group is given a model to be discussed. My group got Lecture-Discussion Model. Before discussing, Ms. Ine asked the members of group to choose a role as Encourager, Facilitator, Material Designer, and Illustrator. Then, I chose to be a facilitator. My group made a poster and decided two booth keepers to explain the material about Lecture Discussion.
Ms. Ine managed the time for visiting another booth so that we could get explanation about the other models. Actually, I got confusion about lecture-discussion and direct method because in the last session I got the different explanation about those models. After gallery walk, I just knew that Direct Method is usually just lecturing method in learning process. Instead of Lecture Discussion which gives questions after lecturing. In the direct method, teacher has a big role as center of information. While Lecture Discussion’s weaknesses are students as passive learners because they just retrieve the information from teacher and the condition is tend to be boring as the students have to keep the information and recall the memory for answering the question.
In this session, my friends got confusion about Guided Discovery and Direct Method. However, both of those models has teacher big role in learning process. But in the guided discovery teacher only guided them to get knowledge. And that model will work well if the students have critical thinking and the teacher has a creative method and technique to be conducted.
While Group Interaction model emphasizes on group work and its cooperative. This model will be effective if each member of the group has own equal job desk and share knowledge together. The weakness of this model is the distraction that might reveal from a member of group and then the group goal cannot be reached. If you want to know which the best model is, you will not found the answer. In my opinion, teacher should consider the condition to plan the activity for learning and not stick up with the only one model.
